Function Keys (F1–F12) and Their Uses
‣ F1 – Help
• Opens the Help menu of the active program
• Used for getting instructions or support
‣ F2 – Rename
• Renames a selected file or folder
• Used for editing file names quickly
‣F3 – Search
• Opens the Search feature
• Used to find files, folders, or text
‣ F4 – Address Bar / Close Window
• Opens the address bar in File Explorer
• Alt + F4 closes the current window or application
‣ F5 – Refresh
• Refreshes the current page or window
• Commonly used in browsers and File Explorer
‣ F6 – Switch Cursor / Address Bar
• Moves the cursor to the address bar in browsers
• Used to switch between screen elements
‣ F7 – Spelling & Grammar Check
• Checks spelling and grammar (MS Word, etc.)
• Sometimes used for caret browsing in browsers
‣ F8 – Startup / Safe Mode
• Used during computer startup
• Opens Advanced Boot Options or Safe Mode
‣ F9 – Refresh / Update Fields
• Refreshes documents or recalculates fields
• Used in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
‣ F10 – Menu Bar
• Activates the menu bar of the active program
• Shift + F10 works like right-click
‣ F11 – Full Screen Mode
• Enters or exits full-screen view
• Common in web browsers
‣ F12 – Save As / Developer Tools
• Opens Save As dialog in MS Word
• Opens Developer Tools in browsers
